Abstract

The sungkai plant is traditionally used as an anthelmintic, against toothache, and as an herb or spice for women who have just given birth. In this case, infectious diseases are still a serious problem in Indonesia. This research was conducted for ± 5 months from February to July 2020 at the Pharmacy Laboratory of the Pioneer Indonesia University, Padang., Palangka Raya University. Researchers control all external variables that affect the experiment, this form of research is commonly referred to as experimental research. The subjects in this study were sungkai leaves (Peronema canescens) while the objects used were Streptococcus mutans bacteria, Salmonella thyposa, Basillus subtilis, Echerichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. The results of the next pressure zone diameter measurement were analyzed to understand whether the information was normally distributed. Because it is not based on 30 samples used in this study, the ShapiroWilk test is a more sensitive test to assess the normality of the data distribution. The growth of E. coli can be suppressed using the antibacterial activity of sungkai leaves on ethanol extract (P. canescens). Concentration of 5% is the concentration of ethanol extract of sungkai leaves which is effective in destroying the growth of E.coli, as evidenced by the formation of a clear area on the paper disc with a diameter of 3.75 mm
