Abstract

Hedyotis corymbosa L. plants have been used as medicinal ingredients, although their use has not been fully recommended by doctors. These plants are widely used as food and traditional medicines and have not been studied much for their content and benefits, one of which is the Pearl Grass (Hedyotis corymbosa L.) plant. which is used as a traditional treatment for bacterial infections. This study aims to determine the content of pearl grass extract which can inhibit bacterial growth. The design in this study is an article review where articles are collected using search engines such as Sciencedirect, EBSCO, Google Scholar and DOAJ. The criteria for the articles used are articles published in 2012-2020. Based on the articles that have been collected, it is found that Pearl Grass (Hedyotis corymbosa L.) has potential as antibacterial compounds including tannins, phenols, terpenoids, saponins, flavonoids and steroids. The fraction with the strongest antibacterial activity was the methylene chloride fraction containing tannins, phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids and steroids with a clear zone formed of about 27.55 mm, while the fraction with the lowest antibacterial activity was the butanol fraction containing tannins, phenols, terpenoids and steroids with no clear zone formation or antibacterial activity. So it can be concluded that in pearl grass extract there is an active substance that functions as an antibacterial that is contained in the methylene chloride fraction. Suggestions for this research is that it is necessary to do further research using solvents, media and other methods
