Preventive Preservation, Disaster Preparedness, Special Librar, BRIN

This study aims to find out how preservation is carried out in the BRIN special library as a form of disaster preparedness and efforts to save its collections. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Primary data collection in this study was conducted through interviews with two librarians at the BRIN library in the Bandung area. In addition, direct observations were also made to support the data to be more realistic and accurate. The data analysis technique in this study refers to the Miles and Huberman model. The implementation of preventive preservation in the BRIN library in the Bandung area includes controlling room temperature with air conditioning, installing curtains in each window to prevent direct sunlight from shining on the collection, placing camphor on each shelf, cleaning dust, fumigation, and even digitizing collections and relocating certain collections. Besides that, preventive preservation activities as a form of disaster preparedness in this special library also include the provision of fire extinguishers, the provision of special evacuation routes and signs for evacuation in the event of a disaster, as well as the existence of a fire alarm. Unfortunately, currently, not all disaster preparedness features in the library can operate properly. In addition, the limited facilities available are an obstacle that can slightly hinder the implementation of preventive preservation in this particular library.
