This research discusses the abilities needed by a translator in the digital era to utilize a translation machine and produce high-quality translation results. This research uses a comprehensive methodology, including literature reviews, case studies, and surveys based on data from previous research to provide insight into translator competencies and the implications of using machine translation in the digital era. Machine translation is a very valuable development asset, but the competence of a translator is the most important and translation must remain human-centered to achieve optimal translation quality. The conclusions in this research highlight the importance of overcoming the gap between machine and human translation for the sustainable development of the translation field in the digital era.
