Abstract

This research aims to determine the themes, story facts, and literary devices in the novel Sanunawatu Kabul by Yasmina Khadra using Robert Stanton's structural approach. By utilizing qualitative-descriptive methods, this research tries to answer questions about themes, story facts, and literary devices contained in the novel through the library, reading, and note-taking techniques. The research results show that there are many themes raised in the novel, namely selfishness, romance, fear, misfortune, quarrels, sacrifice, regret, environmental issues, and social conflict. The fact of the story in the form of a plot is that the storytelling is done with a back-and-forth or mixed plot. Meanwhile, the main characters are Atiq, Zunaira, Musarrat, and Muhsin. The setting consists of a street, prison, market, Kabul city, grave, and bed and the time setting consists of evening, morning, and night. The atmosphere consists of tension, happiness, anxiety, and sadness. Finally, the literary medium in terms of title is Sanunawatu Kabul, while the point of view is mixed, and there are 3 language styles used by the author, namely simile, metaphor, and hyperbole and symbolism with one data found for each.
