Abstract

This research aims to discuss the existence of the sun god (Amaterasu Omikami) and his hierarchy of power in Japanese religion. This research is a library research study with data types and a qualitative approach, the main data sources were obtained from journals and articles discussing the sun god and analyzed descriptively-analytically.  The results of this research explain that the sun god (Amaterasu Omikami) is a descendant of the god Izanagi and the goddess Izanami, who were descendants of the Japanese emperor. The sun god is recognized as the highest god in the world and is the ruler of Takama Nohara. The sun god is also believed to be the ancestor of all the emperors in Japan
