This study aims to analyze the views of modern capitalistic society on the existence of service transactions in the practice of worship. The focus of this research is to see how professionalism is carried out by marbots in worship practices as employees who maintain the mosque and the community as employees. The setting in this study was carried out at the Padang Sarai Koto Tangah mosque, Padang City, West Sumatra. This study uses a type of field research (field research) with a descriptive qualitative approach. The problem in this research is examined in more depth using the study of the study of religions with the phenomenology of religion, social exchange and socio-religious approaches. The data in this study were collected through observation, interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis models. The results in this study found that first; the existence of a mosque (surau) in Minangkabau was initially managed by an angku, labai (inyiak surau) who worked selflessly to prosper the mosque, but in its development it was taken over by a marbot in accordance with the contract and work fees agreed with the mosque management. Second; the replacement of angku, lumpur (inyiak surau) causes a shift in meaning in worship practices. Third; This shift in meaning has led to speculation regarding the legitimacy of whether or not giving and receiving wages in the marbot profession.
