Abstract

Shinto is a religion that originated in Japan, it can be said that Shinto is the original religion of the Japanese people and the oldest religion in Japan. The Japanese believe that salt can be used in religious rituals. Salt also has many meanings, namely to purify, drive away evil spirits, increase fortune, and drive away bad luck depending on the traditions being carried out. Japanese people believe that salt can not only purify evil spirits, but can also get rid of bad luck. This study aims to determine the meaning of using salt in Shinto rituals. The research method used is the method of literature ( library research).
