UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK DAUN SUNGKAI (Peronema canescens Jack) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Salmonella typhi

Indonesia is a country with the third largest tropical forest in the world (after Brazil and Zaire). Biodiversity is the basis of various treatments and discoveries of the pharmaceutical industry in the future. The number of medicinal plants in Indonesia is estimated at around 1,260 types of plants. One of them isthe sungkai plant (Peronema canescens Jack) which is one of the herbal medicines found in Indonesia. Thisstudy aims to determine the inhibitory ability of sugkai leaf (Peronema canescens Jack) against Salmonella typhi bacteria. The method used is literature review, articles are collected with Proquest from previous academic journals. The criteria for the articles used are those published in 2011-2020. Based on the articles collected, it was found that sungkai leaves (P. Canescens J) contain metabolites such as a class of terpenoid compounds that have potential as antimicrobials, including antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties, flavonoids are phenolic compounds, while phenolic compounds can act as protein coagulators and added more The presence of a class of polyphenolic compounds is the largest group in plants, one of which is tannins which have antibacterial activity. Broadly speaking, the estimated mechanism is that the toxicity of the polyphenolic group of compounds can damage bacterial cell membranes. This causes the effect of the compound on the inhibition test of sungkai leaf (Peronema canescens Jack) against bacteria so that it can be seen that sungkai leaf (P. canescens J) can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Salmonella typhi.
